So, hier ist also mein erstes Interview. Keine seitenlange Diskussion, mehr ein Update, was so los ist.
Viel Spaß!
1.) Hi Gary! How is life dude? What are you doing?
life is real good for me these days. this past october, my wife and i celebrated five years of marriage. i work at a creole mexican taqueria in new orleans with friends that i've had since i was a teenager, so even work (which i consider a plaque to my life) isn't that bad. for gustav, my wife, 2 dogs, and 2 turtles headed out north, ended up in jackson,ms., and stayed there for a night with some friends of a friend. we thought the storm had passed, and started heading back home only to realize (too late) that the storm had changed course and we drove thru it, and ended up safe at a friends house in bogalusa, la. other than that, i barbeque in my backyard like a maniac, and the rest is music; listening to it, or playing.
2.) On which band do you spend most of your time actually?
i spend equal time with hawg jaw and outlaw order right now. maybe a little more with outlaw order because we have a new record coming out, i jam with eyehategod whenever jimmy is in town; we're in the middle of slowly piecing together music for a new record.
3.) How often/regularly do you jam with each band?
with hawg jaw and outlaw order, we jam twice a week for each band. when we jam eyehategod, we practice more because we usually have a limited amount of time to get together because of tour schedules.
4.) How happy are you with the 00% album which will be released in November? What can we expect?
i could not be more ecstatic about this release. of all the recordings i've done with all the bands i play in, this record is the one that sounds exactly like it sounded in my head. so many times i've been in the studio, and had the songs we worked so hard at writing come out sounding good on the studio monitors, and not as good everywhere else. the engineer we worked with, david "puma" troia, was extremely helpful in presenting our sound the way we wanted it. he was easily the best engineer i've worked with, and because of his patience with our constant criticism and his gift for recording, this record came out like it did. what not to expect: this being eyehategod without jimmy. this band is a separate project entirely; we are not trying to replace eyehategod, and anyone who listens to our new record and still thinks that is not listening to the music. critics will say this if they have to many cds to review that month, and just want to say something superficial and cliche instead of really caring about what they are writing. people will always talk shit...fuck' em.
5.) Where did you record the album and how long did it take?
we recorded at puma's lair in abita springs, lousiana. the tracking took us about one week, but the mixing and mastering part took about a month. we wanted to make sure that everything sounded true to our live sound.
6.) Further plans with 00%? A tour?
touring is definitely in our near future. we just played our first show in three years last night, and we have never felt so good about playing live. we are doing a few shows in the region for jan. 2009, and then plan to do some touring in the u.s. shortly after.
7.) Any plans to play Europe? Its a french label.
yes. possibly in the summer of 2009.
8.) Whats up with EHG? As we all know, Bower is busy with Down. But any chance for a new album? I read Mike would love to make a new one.
yes, that is the main focus of the band at this point. we are all very enthusiastic about putting out something new with ehg. we have written about 4-5 new songs to date. when jimmy is not out with down, we get together regularly and write as much as we can. two of the songs we played at our 20th anniversary show were written a few months before the show. its just a matter of finding the time between tour schedules to get things done.
9.) Any chance for a European Tour with EHG again one day???
most definitely; we had talked about doing something a few months back for december 2008, but those plans fell thru because brian will be touring canada with soilent green during the time that we would be able to do it. it will happen eventually.
10.) Maybe a tour with Hank III?! (Funny story I read somewhere of a gig you did together where the cowboys really hated you)
hell yeah...we are all fans and friends, and to do a tour with hank III would be a blast. we did a show with him here in new orleans, and while there were fans there to see us, there were also folks that thought what we were doing was shit. it really was funny; a friend of mine recorded the show from the back of the club, and when mike announces our last song, you can hear everyone around him cheering because we were almost done.
11.) Do you know further details (release date) about the EHG CBGB-DVD which shall be released on Housecore-Records?
its not coming out. we did that show when brian was touring with soilent and couldn't make the show, so phillip anselmo filled in. it was a great show, and for a good cause, but we decided after this show to never do any show or release anything officially that does not include everyone in the band. we've done it before and feel that it dilutes the impact of the band to do anything that does not include everyone. we were talking about doing a live video filmed in our hometown in place of the cbgbs dvd. there are no solid plans for this yet.
12.) What happened with Mike at the 20th anniversary show? You cant hear him on the bootleg. That wasted?
yeah. ...he thought jimmy was supposed to sing.
13.) What are the latest news regarding Hawg Jaw?
we are in the final stages of finishing the material for our fourth full length. for this record, we will be recording with david troia, so i have full faith that everyone will hear hawg jaw in its purest form. we've always done recordings limited by our recording budget, and end up with something close to what we wanted, but never right on in my opinion. it is going to be called "forget everything."
14.) Any special personal plans?
i may go see cheech and chong perform in december.
